THE RESEARCH GROUP:
Biomedical engineer Anders Eklund is the project leader for the CSF dynamics research, and Neurologist Jan Malm is the principle researcher for the medical research and clinical studies. Neuroradiologist Richard Birgander and Associate Professor neurosurgeon Lars-Owe Koskinen are both engaged and active in the research group. Anders Wåhlin, full time PhD student, and Post Doc Khalid Ambarki are mainly focusing on development and analysis of MRI measurements of CSF dynamic parameters. PhD-student Kennet Andersson and PhD Nina Andersson are both involved in the project through their work on development and validation of the CSF dynamic model, and development of the CSF infusion technique. Professor Anton Shiriaev and PhD Ian Manchester work with CSF dynamic models and control system theory, contributing to the MR research as well as to the development of infusion techniques. Niklas Lenfeldt primarily works with new approaches using MRI technique. In the group is also Anders Behrens, medical student, who has studied blood flow and ICP, and is developing a computerised neuropsychology test. Paediatric surgeon PhD Kai Arnell and neurologist Bo Lundkvist study shunt characteristics, both in an experimental test bench and in vivo with infusion studies. Main affiliations are Department of Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Neuroscience and Radiation Sciences at Umeå University Hospital and Umeå University.
